Track the Southern White Rhino

Take flight from Kajjansi airstrip over the bustling city of Kampala to touch down in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the home of Uganda’s only rhino population. The first six rhinos arrived at the sanctuary in the years 2005/2006, four from the Solio Ranch, Kenya and two from Disney’s Animal Kingdom, USA. Since then the sanctuaries population has grown to reach 15 individuals and still growing, with the most recent birth being in September 2015.

On completing a briefing, track through the African bush on foot with an experienced ranger to seek out the Southern White rhino to watch them graze, nurse their young, and socialise in their natural habitat. The rhinos are kept under the watch of rangers 24 hours a day to ensure their security. The rangers will gladly be able to give you detailed information on all of the herd members, rhino behavior and the sanctuaries other abundant wildlife.

Then make your way back to Amuka Lodge where you can cool off with a dip in the pool before being be served lunch in the shade of the lodge’s thatched terrace.

After lunch take to the skies again and fly north over the savannah plains and thundering waterfall of Murchison Falls National Park to spot buffalo, elelphant and giraffe herds. This is one of the rhinos former ranges which they will one day be released back in to the wild. Then fly south back to Kajjansi airstrip, landing before dusk.
